PRINCIPLE OF THE TEST

0.5 cm² reconstituted human oral epithelial tissues were topically exposed in triplicate to 4 commercially available oral care products diluted at 30% (3 toothpaste's: products A, B and C, and 1 mouthwash: product D) at 60 µl/cm² for 10 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours and 24 hours. After a wash step to remove the products, duplicate tissues were consequently assayed for cell viability; the third tissue was fixed in formalin 10% and embedded in paraffin for histology analysis (H&E staining).

TESTED PRODUCTS

  • Toothpaste A: containing SLS
  • Toothpaste B: containing SLS and propylene glycol
  • Toothpaste C: containing no SLS, no propylene glycol
  • Mouthwash D: containing glycerine, lidocaine chlorohydrate
