On May 2nd, 2007, the ESAC (ECVAM Scientific Advisory Committee which role is to make a formal recommendation on the scientific validity of an alternative method by issuing a statement on the applicability of the method for a particular purpose) has stated that the Episkin tissue model has been validated as the only stand alone alternative method to the animal use for skin irritation.
This decision is in compliance with the 7th Amendment of the European Cosmetic Directive which is going to come in place in March 2009 ( less than 12 months to go ) and is contemporary to the start of the REACH program applied on 30 000 chemicals since June, 1st, 2007.
SkinEthic is committed to be a key player in this regulatory frame as the company selling Episkin and as a partner for all impacted companies through a large program of support, assistance and education.
As a result, the company is organizing dedicated training sessions to the validated protocol; the course is including a detailed follow up of the SOP, step by step, as well as tools and tricks so that the trainee is able to implement the protocol in house. This course is a one-day long in which the attendee will manipulate the tissues.
