From 15th December, SkinEthic will be adding the Episkin model (a reconstructed human epidermis) to its catalogue. The kits of 12 will be available in a big size of 1.07 cm² or a smaller size of 0.38 cm². SkinEthic, world leader in the tissue engineering business has developed since its creation in 1992 various models of human skin, corneal and other mucosas.
The Episkin model will be enlarging a choice of kits. These are regularly used for biochemical and cutaneous physiology tests helping understand and evaluate tolerance and efficacy of raw materials and finished products. The Episkin model has been validated as an alternative method to animal experimentation by the ECVAM(1) and the ICCVAM(2) for prediction of cutaneous corrosivity. An in vitro method of evaluation of cutaneous irritation of chemical products is about to be validated by the ECVAM with this very model. 1 - European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ECVAM) 2 - Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Validation of Alternative Methods (ICCVAM).
